"How the War on Terror Turned into A War on American Values"
Jane Mayer, Staff Writer, The New Yorker

Conversations host Harry Kreisler welcomes New Yorker writer Jane Mayer for a discussion of her new book, The Dark Side. She explains how, under the direction of Vice President Cheney and his Assistant David Addington, the Bush administration, contrary to American history and tradition, implemented a policy of torture and rendition in violation of U.S. and international law. She describes the resistence within the government and the military to these actions. Mayer also offers a compelling account of what happened to detainees under the Cheney/Addington regime. She also analyzes the long term consequences for the fight against terror and for U.S. moral leadership in the world.

  • All Americans should watch this to hear the depths that the Bush administration sank. Hopefully it will show the international community that not all in power in the Bush administration and government are creeps. I commend those who worked against Chaney and Addington and their paranoid "war on terror". I urge the legal community to investigate and bring to justice those who condoned and ordered torture and renditions.

  • Wonderful interview. Look forward to reading the book.

  • When she mentioned how John McCain stood up and denounced torture, it really made me wonder how he could have changed so much by the time the 2010 election came around. I'm very disappointed with how he has evolved. I really would have voted for him in 2010 if he was still the maverick and the moderate he used to be.

  • Yes but they can't do that to a little yellow China man or a scrawny little India babu can they -wanna guess why! How far would they have really got with this! Not just cruel but really really stupid! Hang the cowards! Thank you great Interview
