pack a lunch, this is a long video. I enter Wyoming on HWY20 and on this day I ride about 85 miles to the Junction of HWY20 and I-25. I encounter large thunderstorms on the way.

I tweet @DavefromTWJ

If you do visit Douglas, read a little about a cowboy named George W. Pike. He is buried in the town cemetery

Something I was told after I made this video, is that if you a planning to visit Douglas WY during the State Fair, you will have a hard time finding a place to camp in the City Park. The KOA campground might be tough too. A touring bicyclist may be able to slip into the campground around the edges, but there is no guarantee. The hotels in town are usually booked as well, so you might have to ride a couple miles out of town and find a place to camp on the open range. (of course you can come into town, enjoy the fair, take a shower and return to the open range in the evening)

here are the dates for the State Fair in Douglas for the next 3 years

13-20 Aug 2011
11-18 Aug 2012
10-17 Aug 2013

  • do u go through casper?

  • @TehComedyyChannel yes I did... Casper has alot to offer, great outdoor stores and all the big chain stores. But very little camping. I guess I got used to small town in the midwest offering free camping in the City Parks.

  • Hi there ThreeWheelJourney, i am looking forward to seeing Part 2 of Wyoming!

Just wondering, did you spend a lot of money on this bicycling tour?

Do you think it is possible for a cyclist to ride across America with only 200 dollars in his pocket and carry only a medium size backpack by Jansport?

i may consider touring the USA but with very little money and hardly any gear...

  • @distantcyclist hmmm,, I know that I would have a hard time traveling across the country with only 200 bucks. I have met people who are basically "homeless people" living on a bike, but they tend to have a geographical area they migrate in. For example, I met a 20 something kid named Matt who goes from Washington State to Southern California yearly on a bike. He picks fruit in WA and collects cans on the way to earn a living. Food is the big expense and it's hard to lower your fuel costs

  • Hey there Its great to see you again. My gals and I all gather round to watch this one. :) The thunderstorm part of the video made us all laugh. Which may be a little warped but it was kinda funny! Great to see you again. Keep going strong and know that you have alot of peeps out there watchen for ya weekly. Oh and thanks for the comment on my first cycle trip since the accident. Watch out for those 4 wheelers! ;)

  • @llt32 thanks so much...I kinda got stuck in the small town of Jeffrey City (pop. 50) cuz I was befriended by the locals and they made me stay up to 3am and drink fire-water around a campfire

see all

  • I am so, so, SO envious of your trip. I had a bicycle trip from Crystal Lake, Ill (Near the Ill/Wisc border) to Seminole, Fl (Tampa/St Pete area) for this past summer. I got about 100 miles or so into it and due to a bad choice for a road, I was nearly killed not once but four times in one day. There was no shoulder except for a small brand new loose gravel thing that was nearly impossible to navigate and had to ride on the white line. I had to cancel the trip, ship my bike and take a train.

  • Great idea! What a sweet personal challenge to years endure! I havent been to Wyoming in probaly 25 years-I was just a couple years shy of being a teenager and I can still remember the natural beauty of that State!

  • Glad you said you liked Nebraska. I wish I still lived in Lincoln. My grandparents lived in Chadron. My grandpa died in 2008 and my Grandma died in May of 11, but they lived much of their live there. I go every summer and I love Chadron.

  • @mujozen237 I think I am going to do the gear-break down video, right after I finish this trip...it will give me something to do...haha. Most people start their journals and blogs with "This is my gear" but I purposefully waited to see what gear would stand the test of time and what gear failed. I know about being a gear-nut...I am too

  • @mujozen237 thanks for the tweet-question and thanks for being one of my tweeps!
