WONG:
Today South Korean civic groups filled large helium balloons with anti-Pyongyang leaflets before letting the wind take them into their reclusive neighbor. This comes amidst increasing tension between the two countries.

STORY:
[Park Sang-hak, N. Korean Defector]:
"We're sending these leaflets to deliver the actual facts and truth, which I've learned while living in the Republic of Korea, to our families left in the North."

The group of civic organizations packed hundreds of thousands of leaflets, as well as cash, into five large balloons.

Millions of leaflets have been sent to the North over the years.

The North has criticized the activity saying it was one factor leading to a recent border clampdown.

South Korean government officials in the past have asked the groups to stop but say they cannot halt them because of free speech laws.

Participants say they stopped their balloon campaign for a while, but they believe it did not make the North-South relationship any better.

[Park Sang-hak, N. Korean Defector]:
"We had restrained ourselves from sending those leaflets into North Korea. However, did that make the North quiet? North Korea tried to stop economic cooperation between North and South and shut down the Kaesong joint industrial complex, because of the U.S-South Korea joint military exercise and President Lee's remark on North Korea's human rights record at the meeting of United Nations."

Analysts say recent rounds of balloons sent across the border have touched a nerve because of references to North Korean leader Kim Jong-il's suspected stroke in August.

  • @SeventhSun Are u THAT stupid? they don't cause they know that if they do, that crazy bastard kim whatever would try to take over them!

  • There is nothing wrong with crushing protests and beating critics.

You have obviously never lived in any country that emphasises the virtue of social stability over individual freedom.

  • If South Korea is sincere in uniting with North Korea neighbours then the first thing to do is to totally remove their military alliance with America.

  • Hey dumb ass. Im sure you feel real good in blaming my government for every problem in the world.

But dont forget, Canada has its army and air force along side of America's in Iraq AND Afghanistan.

Again, go spread your bull shit elsewhere.

  • What kind of notes? Things like your government renders and tortures people? Bombs and kills women and children? Murders people in cold blood? Is a criminal cabal masquerading as a democracy?

I wonder if things are so rosy why your government made it illegal to protest, created "free speech zones" and imprisons and beats anyone that criticizes the government

I'm not sure what BS you may have been referring to, please elucidate. Enlighten us and bring us to a new higher level of understanding

  • Actually elementary school kids often release balloons for class with notes attached to them.

Go spread your BS somewhere else.

  • maybe leaflets to jehova witnesses?

    ....i don't know i'm asking :D

  • LOL or a crime against global warming.
