I think choice theory is a great theory and commands responsibility from a person. However, i don't completely agree with his view on basic 'needs'. I believe a persons basic need is simply to transcend oneself and contribute to some greater meaningful purpose. The engine behind this must be love. See the writings of Prof Victor Frankel or Pope Prof John Paul 2nd.
I would put CBT and Gestalt under two of the major theories that also deal with the here and now. I work with adults with disabilities and I hear complaints from others saying that therapy does not concentrate on the past issues the people have dealt with. IMO, not only is it hard for people with DD to use reflection and introspection, it's also crucial to work on the current self
I consider Dr Glasser to be a wake up call to all those practitioners who are obsessed with historical aetiology. As Dr Glasser clearly states, all we have is now...NOW, so deal with it! Unless you have a time machine, then let the past go, or even better, learn from the past to assist with our choices now.
I was thrilled to see that there was a video promoting Dr. Glasser and Choice Theory online here at YouTube. However, the information is text based and would be more efficiently transmitted simply as text, not in a video that forces the viewer to watch/read the text at a snail's pace. (YouTube can be slowed down/paused, but not speeded up.) How did you come across William Glasser, and what made you want to do a "video" on Choice Theory?
