Yr. 9 students from Holte School stayed at The Centre For Alternative Technology in Wales. The students spent a week living in eco cabins, monitoring the amount of energy and water they used.
The students took part in various interactive workshops including, eco footprinting, building mini wind turbines and solar powered boats which the tested on the lake. Other activities included woodland walks and sensory explorations by the river.
Teacher Kristian Barton said 'The students have gained a lot from eco camp. They have looked at issues of sustainability, recycling and water preservation and we have all had a fantastic experience living for a week in the eco cabins'.
One of the students said 'It has brought things into perspective, if someone taught me this in school i wouldn't have got it ! But to be here and actually living it is better.
Teacher Karen Hurst said 'I think when they get back home they are going to start thinking, turning off lights, not leaving their mobile phone chargers on all night and generally not using so much electricity. Doing simple things, everyday things which they were not thinking about until they came to this project'.
