In other words, the Lower Gauley is perfect. So perfect that even first-time paddlers who are looking for a challenge could run the Lower Gauley with ACE.

We run the Gauley (both upper and lower) all summer long when no one else is on the water. And then we CRUSH the big water during the fall when the Summersville Dam releases extra water into the Gauley.

The Lower Gauley has plenty of Class IIIs and IVs rapids with a couple of Vs thrown in there. In between the rapids are some lazy stretches to let you relax and catch your breath.

We'd argue that the Lower Gauley also has some of the most beautiful scenery. Your guide will introduce you to a rapid called Canyon Doors. Trust us, you don't want to miss the sandstone walls in that one.

The Lower Gauley is definitely 11.5 miles of AWESOME.
