@CarryingNoCross I know Trey Gunn was a student of Fripp. But there's a big difference between imitation and influence. Also depends on who wrote the piece being performed here.
-
Well, if you cared a little bit you'd known that Robert has been Trey's teacher for a number of years too and to be influenced by your teachers is the most natural thing in the world

@milezkkk do you know how difficult is to play warr guitar? I supose you don't have a clue. You can see it in Trey's fingers, it's a whole different technique. I think his playing is superb. I like the dissonant sound.
It's not atonal, like some people's saying.

@TheNonAntiAnarchist so, to be a really good guitarist, you have to SHRED all the time? Get a clue, not to mention, an imagination. Metal heads going on about technique and blah blah blah, is so much water off a ducks back. If I want to learn technique, I'll go with Julian Bream or McLaughlin.
The guys in King Crimson tend to have a lot of dissonant and "off-kilter" sounding songs, so it makes sense that they would like improvising in the same way. That is, if you were saying the way it sounded was sloppy or something like that. I would imagine it's quite calculated (as much as improv can be :P )
