I am an American Flight Engineer on the MC-130P variant of the Herk. I'm based at a former US Navy P-3 installation, so several of our aircrew came from Orions when the Navy left our base.
I will tell you, if you are looking at this job to cross-train into, that there is NO better seat for an Enlisted guy. I would LOVE to have the opportunity to progress to Warrant Officer as your Air Force allows in this field, but we eliminated the Warrant ranks back in the early 90's.
