due 2 the demand in throttle response and especially because turbo charged cars and lag and naturally tuned cars dont..so keeping torqe in ur rpm range in drifting is a must have..its good for any other motorsport..itz good 2 keep ur drift angle ..want good pick up 2 keep ur angle and keep u sliding but sometimes power and torque dont always cut it..so 2 way lsd lightflywheel and stage 3-5 clutch combo is good to have to keep the power to the wheels
in my opinion torque is more important in drifting or any short track racing..but having a tight suspension is good to keep the tires from spinning but thats in drift ...since companies have noticed the popularity boost of drifting through the years...they sell drift spec suspension..for ex. jic magic .tein.and couple more jdm manufacturers..but still in drifting torque is better than having a much higher hp amount...its better to keep ur hp and torque out put the same
and in drifting u never really accelerate into the corner since that causes the car to slide outward when entering it is usually a feint which is basically motion transfer..then pulling the ebrake for maybe a second then a small tap of the brakes then power-over after it is throttle control then coming out of the turn u accelerate more depending on the upcoming sequence of turns..depending on ur cars power and torque output is how u strategize ur drifting techniques..
its not redlining its the rpm's hitting the rev limiter its good 2 have specially in drifting specially since ur allways above 5k most of the time small drift courses dont require that much if the turns are sharp..for example like the akagi mountains..and since it is a v6 twin turbo its putting out more than enough torque to slide smoothly..not to mention they use a 2 way lsd short gear transmission and stage 4-5 clutch in drifting
oops in my third comment i meant tight suspension is better for grip style racing to keep the tires for losing traction

it's the 'rev limiter' - there's a point to them.

Absolute redline, that is not healthy.
