  • I am not a lawyer, but it seems that lots of the pitfalls in distribution deals he talks about can be prevented by having a proper, well-thought out contract.

    For instance, you should include "RIGHT TO INSPECT BOOKS AND RECORDS" clause to make sure you receive the right residuals. Also you can specify that the distributor actually make commitments to advertise and distribute the film.

  • What about a film that is going to sell a lot of DVD? What about a cable deal?
