just watched your doc, apart from episode 6,and although you didnt make it around you have inspired me to take my boat out of windermere and cross the atlantic, something ive always wanted to do,ive been told by people that have done it that you just head south untill the butter melts then turn right,a doddle.all the best with your new boat and please keep posting, thanks.

Really interesting. I did something similar two years ago. I bought a Westerly Cirrus on ebay (a little too much red wine) one evening. I sailed her from Topsham, near Exemouth to Amble , Northumberland single handed with a day skipper course (15 years ago) behind me. I Know exasctly how you felt! I ran aground 3 times - once leaving Topsham and twice at 0200 trying to get into Wells. Shit scared, you bet. Would I do it again? - you bet. . Wells harbour master - great guy. Ex- fisherman. a prof.

Hi, this series was cool, and all the more inspiring to hear how you just went for it and learned as you went :)
I hope you'll be documenting your adventures on the new boat soon too?
Best of luck to you! x

I love your decision making process - it reminds me of the "anything is possible" attitude of being your age. Very well done!

Have watched the series. Well done. I find this more inspirational than Ellen MacA. Just going and doing it without financial backers. I wish I had done it when I was younger. If it were me, I'd stick with bilge keels. May lose a bit to windward, but much better for creeping over harbour bars at low tide and settling on the mud. Deep keels are for people who can afford to go marina hopping. Anyway, best of luck on the next leg. Looking forward to seeing the vids.

Well done that man.
I am not an experienced sailor, have had lots of trauma's as you did on my K20 mk1. Christchurch was where I went aground 4 times, before I got out.
Very nice inside.
Good luck, and thanks.

Wells is a wonderful place to learn, and I'd certainly recommend just getting a boat and giving it a go. one of the best things about sailing is just spending a lazy afternoon on your boat. You don't even have to go anywhere, and that's something no sailing school can allow you to experience. You will only ever get that on your own boat :)

Thank you all. The new boat is a Tyler Boats, Cinder. I might do the odd video to document the fit out, but I imagine they'll be a bit boring, so I won't do too many.
Of course, when I resume sailing, so will the videos.
