This one of the most beautiful songs of Amaradeva. I love this song from the day one I heard it in early 1970. I remember this song was aired when Mahaweli river diversion project was started in 1970s by Ms Sirimavo Bandaranayake. Sekara passed away in 1977 either in January or early February. I still remember the day, It was just after I finished my NCGE exam. I love Sekara's lyrics, pretty much all of them.

This is very beautiful song. This brings me to my childhood good old days when we used to listen this song. It's very unfortunate that this song was not recorded high quality with modern technology.

@Dr196903. This is my story. I went to Radavana Maha Vidyalaya (now Mahagamasekara Maha vidyalaya) 19 1969, the year Thumman Handiya was filed. Sekara died in 1973 (not 1976). K Jayatilleka and D. D Dias (my time principal at Radawana) were Sekara's class mates. My class master was Karunaratne, K Jayatilleka's brother. I went to meet him when went SL in 2008.

Dear Vidhura, When we listen to this song we feel that it contains the Sinhala Pride, Heritage & History of our Motherland. You feel a real sense of calmness and relief as you think of the great Mahaweli.
Thank you so much for this valuable song..

Dear Vidura,
Thanks for great work. I am poor in English, i could not express the feelings, i just have when listening to this song. How live is the Maestro's voice, lyircs and the music.., I think they have used this in opening Pologolla dam(to my knowledge). Same feeling we had during 80's reading about Mahaveli.. Glory we need to bulid,, Shall we do together..,(not talking politics).. Great Viduhra.....- Bandara

Dear Bandara,
Thanks for your valuble input. I think politics have divided our beautiful country very much which is sad. We should forget party politics and help building the country like one nation irrespective of each and every person's political belief.
Once again thanks for your comment.
Best regards

Vidhura,
What a Classic, Sekara's lyrics with Pandit's Music blends so well. Late Gunadasa Kapuge once told me that, he started his career as a boarder at Sekara's residence.
Vasantha too uploaded the same version around a month ago.
Your clip is better with the scenery.

Dear Palitha,
Thanks very much for your comment.
Sekara used to live in Radawana, Gampaha where
my father used to visit him often when I was a little fellow in the 1970s.
I still remember his funeral pyre back in 1976 and it was just like yesterday.
He was an artist too.
Yes, you are correct, Vasantha uploaded a month or two ago but was missing the last half miniute or so of the song.
Regards
Vidhura
