This report unearths controversial evidence to suggests that the Balibo Five were murdered by invading Indonesian troops who wanted to silence the world's media on the secret occupation taking place.

For 20 years the Indonesian government claimed that the TV journalists died in crossfire during a counter-attack by East Timorese anti-Communist forces against left-wing Fretilin fighters. Now living in voluntary exile, one of our witnesses was within metres of the killings throughout, and has a very different account.

The journalists were killed swiftly, in the early hours of October 16th, by the Indonesian special forces. Four of the journalists were shot in a house where they were taking refuge. One was knifed in the back while trying to surrender. The bodies were then burned. Another witness claims the commander told his men the journalists had to be killed to avoid repercussions in the relationship between Australia and Indonesia. The journalists, comprising two Australians, two Britons and a New Zealander, were all busily filing their reports. Just days before, one had made an emotional appeal: "men who know they may die tomorrow... cannot understand why the rest of the world does
not care. Greg Shackleton, in an unnamed village which we will remember forever, in Portuguese Timor." Through their pictures the horror of the invasion is remembered. With moving archive footage from all the journalists before their brutal demise, this film has led to the re-opening of the inquiry into their deaths. It's yet another embarrassment for Indonesian President Habibie.

  • To Billisnowy, what kind of apologist are you?? Indonesia has one of the worst kind of history when it comes to human rights. Have a look at how they treat christians and fellow muslims in their own country. Wake up to yourself. Indonesia hates Australia.

  • @semtex84 haha where you get the info? Indonesia is a country rich in natural resources. please read in various sources. Netherlands has twice tidah military aggression but never won. Indonesia and it was only using bamboo and crude equipment. and do you know who want to take Irian dutch west? Indonesia won a landslide victory in mempertahankanya. and remind you about the confrontation with Malaysia? Indonesia is not afraid to ask for help even though Malaysia New Zealand and English.

  • @Chrysalist1 The reason why we did it is because you broke the human rights declaration by invading East Timor it is our duty of being a apart of the UN to protect East Timor but of course you muslims don't know shit.

  • everyone know. This is only a matter of time. every year our ever-changing world economy. as Indonesia is increasingly in this country continuously revenue meninggkat and overtake other countries. all international observers know. future state with the largest economy will change. and economists agreed in 2050 Indonesia became the country with the largest economy to7 after china,, america, india, brazil, russia, Mexico and Indonesia ranked number 7.better than japan, germany and others

  • what evidence? indonesia has the word's largest coal producel and it became a major sourchof energy such as china and other countries seacrh on google please whahahahaha

  • Australia can blame it self for the deaths of these men. The Indonesian army is just another rabble pumped up on American steroids and supported by a complicit Australian government. The only thing our government has ever cared about is oil in the Timor Gap. Fuck the little brown people and their problems so long as we get our share. Balibo 5, Bali 9, Jack Thomas, David Hicks, Julian Assange - we'll sell you up the river because diplomacy is more lucrative than the truth.

  • @EGASANJAYA LOL we supply Indonesia with 90% of its Energy needs.

You cannot invade another country when you have NO electricity.

I can tell you now, if Indonesia invaded Australia, we would Nuke Jakarta in a heart beat.

  • @Chrysalist1 Actually we already have, and have acknowledged this and apologised, please apologise for this incident.

  • @indosista War we were not involved in and our journalists were still killed under military order. "Well we're not the people who's STEALING other's land and come to other country bringing drugs" You would judge an entire nation based on this? "maybe our country should stop giving permission to ur country for by passing our land." Maybe my country should stop giving 1 billion dollars to yours every year!
