The final drive, where Oregon State moves 78 yards in 25 seconds to score a touchdown with no time left. Down one, they went for two and the big upset... however the pass was tipped away and the game was over. The game still stands in the minds of many Oregon Staters though as the turning point in the program, where the team started to believe they could not only compete, but win.

  • So this is Oregon State's equivalent of Kenny Wheaton? Pretty sad that Barbara Hedges effed everything up. Things were so great back then, we humiliated the Oregon schools every year, wazzu was rarely a threat, and if USC was beaten we were probably headed to the rose bowl. Sad those days had to end.

  • Oregon State's "Kenny Wheaton" was the touchdown run in the 2nd overtime of the 98 Civil War to beat the Ducks.

  • was this an "old time" uniform day? Or St's are awful

  • nope, those were the normal unis. fwiw they only lasted two years.

  • What the fuck? Overtime has existed since 1996. I remember UCLA beating USC in double OT so I know FOR SURE that OT has been around before '98.

  • It existed, Oregon State beat Oregon in double overtime later that year.

  • @UWrosesdawg No, very happy those days are done!! Thank you Barbara Hedges, we owe you big!

  • @thomasg86 civil war was fought in the 1800's. and they ate ducks for food back then. 1998 was a loooong time after that.

  • I had just came back on my mid-tour leave and went straight to the game. I and my brother had thought it was over, but just we were outside they scored that touchdown. We waited for the crowd reaction during the 2-pt try and were very fortunate. HOW IRONIC IT WOULD HAPPEN AGAIN, 12 YEARS LATER. If only you had the try posted too?

  • This was Washington's Homecoming game that year. Jim Lambright had been a GREAT defensive co-ordinator for the Dawgs and he BLED Purple and Gold, but unfortunately he just wasn't all that great a HEAD football coach.

  • I went to Roseburg, definitely black and orange. Almost nobody could tell you that Riddle is a place in Oregon, much less what color their unis are.

  • Isnt Roseburg Black and green? I thought riddle was oregn and black or wait maybe riddles the irish

  • Wow, the uniforms...ugh. You'd think it was Roseburg playing Marshfield at first glance if you didn't know better.

  • That was a great game and a great year 5-6 was amazing for us all thanks to Riley and Jonathan Smith
