I just recently purchased a GC8, your posts are what got me interested in trying one. I ended up trying 7 different GC8's though, before finding one that spoke to me. Don't get me wrong, they were all consistantly good, but the wood in the one I chose just vibrates like crazy, and has a warmer/richer tone without any loss of clarity, and with a bit more headroom than the others I tried. In my search, I also found a very nice Larrivee OM-09, and a Martin OMJM, but the GC8 won out.

Thanks for your thoughtful comment. I'm using Martin 12-54 SP Phosphor Bronze strings on the Taylor, with a bone saddle that I swapped in. The Taylor has scalloped bracing on the top and my particular Martin does not, so the Martin is taking a little longer to break in. But it sounds better to me all the time after so much use.

Just curious, why did you choose to go
with no scalloped bracing on your Martin.
Obviously it's a great sounding guitar re-
gardless, but I was just wondering how
scalloped bracing in that guitar would
have effected it's tone. Thanks.

I liked the sound of this guitar, and it happened not to have scalloped bracing. I tried a guitar (EC 000-28 model) with scalloped bracing and there was not much difference in sound. Mine has the same wood as the Clapton signature. For me it's not just about sound; it's also about how it feels and plays, too. What guitar do you have?
