Sissel, the international singing sensation from Norway, is widely regarded as one of the finest and most talented sopranos in the world. Her crystalclear voice has made Sissel a national institution in Norway. Sissel has sung all over the world, selling over six million solo albums. She contributed the haunting vocal tracks for the soundtrack to Titanic. She has been doing great duets with singers like Placido Domingo, Charles Aznavour, Taro Ichihara, Bryn Terfel, Jose Carreras, Russell Watson, Kurt Nilsen, Neil Sedaka and Josh Groban. A very remarkable voice you will only hear once in your lifetime.

This song by Edvard Grieg is about a dying man and his view on his last spring. This is an rare perfomance from 2001. A real treasure and Sissel sounds divine.

In the period between 1877 - 1880, Grieg produced a set of songs as his Op. 33 on texts by a man some called the peasant-poet of Norway, Aasmund Vinje (1818 - 1870). The composer had been greatly inspired by the then-late poet's verses, so much so that after completing the set, he decided to arrange two of its songs for string orchestra, this one The Last Spring and The Wounded Heart. The last Spring is a sad piece of music. The text tells of a dying man who is aware his is observing his last spring.

  • I am a relatively new fan of her's. I have never in my life experienced such a surreal and captivating artist. I am blown away. I am convinced that her voice is divinely inspired. So crystalline and delicate, yet haunting and powerful. She truly becomes the music. Her facial expressions are priceless, it gives me goosebumps, she truly feels the music, and it shows. She is an embodiment of hope and love in humanity. This is the way it should be. This is true beauty through art. This is Sissel.

  • This is Nynorsk right?

  • @furmitten @furmitten Not very many, really. If you could give me the link to your favorite version, I'll be very thankful. Or at least better than this one

  • @Ramaz1969 - You've compared how many versions ? It's hard to compare apples and oranges. This performance uses a microphone, and a pop orchestration - and a pop singer. So ... we are comparing this to performances by classically trained singers without a microphone, and using the music by Grieg ? We don't even know how this singer really sounds without the technology.

  • @furmitten publicity engine? Well, I don't really know what you're talking about, because I was just surfing on Youtube to find different versions of one of my favorite compositions and I found this version. I didn't even know who Sissel was. I can say that this is the best performance I've ever heard. It goes right through my soul an makes me cry of joy. This is all what music is about and I don't care about theoretical stuff about some 'nuances, shading and power'. Sorry.

  • Man at 2:38:

    "I'd tap that."

  • Je to andělský hlas- Sissel je pro Griegovy písně momentálně nejlepší interpretkou- dokáže vyjádřit náladu písní .... nádhera ! Díky

  • I think Grieg should be very proud!

  • Saw her live in Gothenburg 02/11. She was awesome!

  • Okay, I get that people are touched by Sissel... I'd love you to hear this same piece sung by a superb classically trained soprano, without a microphone, like Karita Matilla.... and then tell me what you think.
