  • shit, this is so fresh!

  • @cliffworks4321 URNA class X yourself: probing mind. INTUITION & DIGRESSION seem ‘normal’ today, but back in ’49? Tristano said the engineer threw up his hands & left the controls soon after the group started. Capitol thought they were stupid to try such "'music." The 2 tunes were a decade+ ahead of soon-to-be commonplace free expression-ie, w/o set chord progressions & time signatures. Symphony Sid played them for yrs; Capitol got lots of requests, released them - & the bread to Tristano. :I:

  • @Finkanslig why did Capitol refuse to release, what was the prob at the studio? tks

  • quelle belle epoque..

  • Amazing!!

  • Billy Bauer's great MARIONETTE is in an ABCD pattern - rarely used in Jazz compositions.

Quite a day in a NY studio for the Lennie Tristano Sextette 16 MAY 1949: SAX OF A KIND (Fine and Dandy), INTUITION, & DIGRESSION to their credit, too. INTUITION & DIGRESSION caused a stink even at the studio; Capitol Records refused to release them; Tristano eventually got paid, and both were released eventually.

Miles & Mulligan praised them, seeing them as valuable cutting-edge music. :I:

  • soo mellow, mjam ... =))
