Ganbare Goemon 2: Kiteretsu Shogun Magginesu (The Mysterious General MacGuiness) wasn't released outside of Japan. It has a number of improvements over the previous title. The gameplay is generally a much tighter experience, so making a single silly mistake isn't necessarily going to cost you much. I was quite taken with this game as soon as I saw a preview of it in EGM way back in 1993, and a few years ago I imported it.
The story this time is that the foreign general MacGuiness (I assume that's the proper western form of Magginesu) has taken over Japan and is holding the emperor and princess Yuki hostage in his flying castle. MacGuiness is just plain weird, having all his followers wear bunny costumes. Dunno what that's supposed to represent, but hey... So, Sasuke the ninja goes to get Goemon and Ebisumaru back from their vacation to fight MacGuiness.
Getting a special conch horn from the Old Man allows the trio to summon Goemon Impact, the giant robot. After that, it's off to fight the first of MacGuiness' lieutenants.
Can anyone tell me what Japanese woodblock print the title screen is based on? I know the previous game in the series used Hokusai's image of Asakusa temple, but I'm super curious about what print Konami's designers used as the basis for the title screen at 0:11
Thanks!
