'Ancestral Bells' is the third movement of Radulescu's Sonata for Cello & Piano (Op.98), alternatively titled 'Exil intérieur'. Cello and piano both play a Romanian Christmas carol from Moldavia, a hymn dedicated to the sun, at different tempi simultaneously, resulting in 'diffracted heterophony', a term coined by Radulescu.
