I think the purpose of British troops in Afghanistan is pointless, because if Gordon Brown is saying its due to the threat of terrorism, then why were the 7/7 terrorist attacks carried out by home grown muslims, rather than those from Afghanistan. Also 2 of the 7/7 terrorists went to Al Qaeda camps months before the act and those camps weren't in Afghanistan, but in Pakistan's Waziristan region. So whats the point of troops in Afghanistan ? The biggest threat is home grown radical islam !!!

yeah I mean if you can plan a teeorist attack in Leeds then war seems a bit futile, it should be up to the police to stop acts of terror not the army, however I do worry about the taliban getting close to pakistan's warheads.

@nbarrett100 I would agre on the subject of Pakistani Nukes, but seriously countries like india/pakistan or north korea don't need the bloody things when such a large number of their populations live in poverty.

The problem is we can't leave Afghanistan if we leave now it will be the same situation as when the Soviets left the PDPA at the mercy of the Taliban in 1989.

The Afghan Taliban were supported by Pakistan, to have a pro-pakistani government in Afghanistan. Its only when the Americans and NATO alliance went into Afghanistan, that the americans forced the Pakistanis to distance itself from the Taliban. That basically led to some members to form a Pakistani Taliban group to fight against the Pakistani government, who they felt betrayed them. So in other words if the taliban gets closer to the warheads then thats the fault of the government of Pakistan.

All country's have some sort of Pomp and ceremony. May it be China, France EVEN!!! The US has ceremony's where the governing body stops debating important decisions to acknowledge there country's heritage.
