16,000 children die of malnutrition every day.

Nutty Solutions will fight childhood malnutrition by selling a gourmet, organic peanut butter and using the proceeds to fund the production of a fortified peanut butter, a type of ready-to-use therapeutic food (RUTF). We will first donate to Project Peanut Butter in Malawi, a reputable organization who serves as a model for many other initiatives, and expand overtime to help establish local RUTF facilities in countries such as Nepal. Our peanut butter sales assert a sustainable and scalable solution for fighting this global problem: paying for lifesaving RUTF treatment and production, providing jobs in receiving countries, and increasing awareness of childhood malnutrition in the US.

Join us by voting! We have been chosen out of over 500 entries as one of the top 100 semi-finalists in the Dell Social Innovation Competition!

  • Thanks for the feedback. A couple of points about your inquiry:

    - Plumpy nut makes RUTF, thats not the problem, the problem is sustainable funding for supply and distribution, hence the disparity between supply capacity (19,000 units) and demand (258,000) and the high death rate (16,000 children a day).

    - Selling peanut butter in the US does not require building your own factory. Basic RUTF manufacturing in the developing countries is a low cost endeavor.

    - Seven extra hours sounds good

    Thanks!

  • this idea isn't 'innovative'- this already exists, see plumpy nut. also i don't see how the 50k given by dell would cover even 1% of starting a food manufacturing company. the video has good production value though : )...if you want to see innovation (as in something that isn't in practice yet but can be using the money provided) watch 'seven extra hours'. as a pregnant female 20 something i think their idea is much more worthy. no offense to you or peanuts.

  • Kudos!

I'm nuts about the idea already...

    :-p

    Kadryn

  • Informative. Convincing. Powerful.
