In my first year as a high school freshman basketball coach, I had more players benched for breaking team rules (skipping practice), in one particular game, than playing. I was fired the next year. Oh well.

When I was young, the rule was that you just had to begin the match with five. Then, if you end up with four (due to fouling out or injury), you can continue playing. However, I'm not sure about intentionally playing with four. I've never heard of anyone trying that.
