  • Yes, in many ways Obama is politics as usual. But we vote for US President, not humanity's savior. However limited by the system, Obama has potential: his enthusiasts may be starry eyed, but that's because we sense his decency, absent in most politicians by the time they get to his level. Decency and intelligence may make a world of difference. He is better than "the lesser of two evils". But even if he were just that, think of where we would be if in 2000 Gore had been elected instead of Bush.

  • EXACTLY!

Very well written and intelligent, other than most of the comments I get.

    Thanks, boba.

  • I respect your drive for world peace. :) I hope you can achieve it.

  • Yeah, they promote 'unity' and go straight towards separation after the election.

  • what intelligence is there. democrats are so ignorant. you only liked that comment because it made you feel good about what you believe in.

  • obama is not going to get us out of the war. everyone forgets that the democrats were and probably still are the war party. the only reason we had a republican president that was for war is because he was influenced by neocons that came over from the democratic party. you need to read up on your history of both parties.

  • dude,

i am all for obama too! and ur a really good public speaker if ur not gonna be one of those politics or watever their called-you should be a braudcaster.

  • RationalLiberty, you want to "punish" Dems for not stopping the war and all their other sins. But you'd punish Americans and the world to more Republican insanity. The hard core of current Republicans is corporate and military power. But the fragile core of Democrats and Obama, with all their limitations, respects people's rights and aspirations, and we must nurture it for change in a sane direction. "Punishment" does not get us there. In Voltaire's words, "The perfect is the enemy of the good."

  • ...then no president could ever be!

I think because of these reasons, Obama is bad, and McCain is worse, but Obama is SO bad, in an election year when he could REALLY create change the likes of which we havent seen since the New Deal-that I cannot in good conscience vote for him.

Dont get me wrong, I HATE that scumbag warmonger McCain, but I fiercely feel betrayed by Obama.

I think it is imperative that us as voters not stand by and take all this abuse. We want change-LETS SEE IT!

  • that all said, I must turn to Obama.

He is the pick of the establishment, and he has proven it through his "centrist" (more like rightward) positions that he has taken on FISA, Supreme court, faith based initiatives-etc.

The newest proof of this is by choosing Biden to be his V.P. (not exactly a 'change' agent is he?)

I am worried if Obama extends his power as president, would he be held accountable by a democratic congress?

    No.

    Would McCain?

Maybe, but if Bush isnt impeached...

  • ...grabs thrown down by the democrats? have you seen bush impeached for the obvious crimes he has committed? Have you seen any motion toward progressive values?

I wholeheartedly agree, we must push our candidtes to responsiveness inbetween elections, but this Congress has not represented progressive values at all for their entire term!

In other countries new parties would come to power off the failures of the old opposition party. In this country, why would we want to elect dems again?
