Django Unchained starring Jamie Foxx, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Samuel L. Jackson, and directed by Quentin Tarantino is reviewed by Ben Mankiewicz (host of Turner Classic Movies), Matt Atchity (Editor-in-chief Rottentomatoes.com), Alonso Duralde (TheWrap.com and Linoleum Knife podcast) and Christy Lemire (AP critic).
See what other critics are saying: http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/djang...
Set in the South two years before the Civil War, Django Unchained stars Jamie Foxx as Django, a slave whose brutal history with his former owners lands him face-to-face with German-born bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz (Christoph Waltz). Schultz is on the trail of the murderous Brittle brothers, and only Django can lead him to his bounty. Honing vital hunting skills, Django remains focused on one goal: finding and rescuing Broomhilda (Kerry Washington), the wife he lost to the slave trade long ago. Django and Schultz's search ultimately leads them to Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio), the proprietor of "Candyland," an infamous plantation. Exploring the compound under false pretenses, Django and Schultz arouse the suspicion of Stephen (Samuel L. Jackson), Candie's trusted house slave. -- (C) Weinstein

I actually enjoyed Django Unchained more then Inglorious Basterds. I feel like Inglorious was disjointed and the characters not as rounded.

On the same level as Pulp Fiction for sure.

I think the longer scenes are one of the great things about Tarantino's movies. Who can blame the guy for falling in love with his own writing, the dialogue is beautiful and the longer scenes I found the most gripping. E.g. at the dining table. My favourite Tarantino movie so far.

Why are they criticizing the alternately fast and slow pacing? Have they not seen Tarantino films before? To me, the slowed down scenes are what makes Tarantino so great. The hold-up scene at the end of pulp fiction for example, or earlier in the film when he recites Ezekiel before shooting up the place.

I feel like everything interesting happened in the middle when things slowed down, and to make it into a movie the beginning and the end were rushed through and slapped on.

With the exception of your use of "nobody" (these folks are pros in their own right), I largely agree with what yo have to say. I also don't agree that Tarantino movies are beyond "dissecting"--that's what a review boils down to in the end.
