@haberdashery01 I totally disagree with you about Felix. If his music sounds "fussy" at times,I have found that it is usually the fault of his interpreters who always seem to want to perform his music at a "Hyper caffeinated tempo". He and his sister were both incredibly talented and dramatic, and their music was almost always melodic and well balanced. No need to build up the sister by tearing the brother down.

That intro sounds very VERY similar to Her brother Felixes "piano entrance" on his D minor Piano concerto Op 40. I wonder who's came first?

@JesusChrysostomo thanks for uploading! who are the performers?

@AA19752012 When you mentioned Brahms, this just came to my mind: the interrupted arpeggios on the piano from 1:35 in this piece is very similar to the one played in the Brahms magnificent 2nd piano concerto fortissimo, after the smooth intoduction. And both works are in the same tonality! I know how Felix Mendelssohn inspired Brahms, I didn't know her sister did inspire him as well. Interesting

Well, moments before I listened to this I was thinking how Brahms piano quartet was the best piano and string work I had ever heard. Hearing the opening to this piece when the strings come in I was instantly informed that he borrowed the theme to one of the movements from this. A shame more people don't play her music.

An extraordinary talent. Such a shame that it was underestimated and not given a chance to flourish. It is wonderful that Fanny persisted and continued to compose, and that we are able to experience marvellous pieces such as this. Her brother's music can sound fussy and at times dry, but Fanny's music is so delightful and charming.
