Just a slight correction on your comment, EI CXS is the duty aircraft in sligo
and EI CNL was returned to the owners when EI GCE arrived from norway in 2007, the other spare aircraft is EI CZN.
it was on duty in shannon a few weeks ago while GCE was in for maintenance.
other than that your spot on

i thought rescue 117 is only given to the chopper when its on a rescue. but for normal flying its callsign is, Romeo Charlie Golf (or something along those lines)

You are correct, Scoutwitgun.
There are 6 aircraft in total accross Ireland - EI-SAR, EI-RCG, EI-CXS (Spare), EI-MES, EI-CNL (spare) and EI-GCE.
There is 4 on duty at all times - they donn the callsigns 'Rescue 115', 'Rescue 116', Rescue 117', and Rescue 118 when tasked.
The Duty Aircraft in Waterford is EI-SAR, or "Sierra Alpha Romeo" (their backup is EI-RCG - or prounounced "Romeo Charlie Golf", as you correctly mentioned).
They use callsign RESCUE 117 on Taskings.
