I got to meet this man a couple of days ago he is quiet the person. He now runs a bowling shop in Spring, Texas.

As a PS to my post, I was bowling in a Junior All-Star tournament that day in Linden, NJ. We got to Linden Lanes just in time to get to the bar and see the 10th frame bowled live. The bar went nuts to say the least!

The winner of the 1967 Firestone was Jim Stefanich. For those who are wondering who the announcers are, one of the ABC Broadcast Unions went on strike the week of the Firestone. Chris Schenkel was a union member, and Billy Welu either chose to honor the picket line or was a union member himself, I'm not sure. I thought I once read that the 'last minute stand-in' announcers were Pro Bowlers Ed Bourdase and Bob Strampe - but I would like to get some confirmation on that some day.

@buffalorobbie And I should mention, I had the ball drilled in about 1961 or 1964. I can't quite remember. I would bowl summers in sweepers and usually won one a week at age 15. I bowled a NW Regional PBA tourney and out of 162 placed 6th or 7th in 1985 at age 46 years old. I took up golf and played in leagues and ended up with a 3 handicap. I have fucked up my shoulder and my golfing days may be over. The injury was 1.5 yrs ago. I'm still taking pain meds for that.

@buffalorobbie I had jack drill a ball for me when he worked at Post Oak Lanes in Houston, TX I had been using a 14 lb. conventional ball. The next week, I bowled in the Houston City Junior Championship. I qualified with about a 126 average.but the finals I averaged 183 with the 16 pound fingertip ball jack drilled. I won by a bunch. I went on to bowl professionally at 15 yrs. old and paid a lot of my tuition in college bowling. I would win at least one sweeper a week averaging 240's.

Would anyone remember left hander bowler Nin Angelo pro bowler father of Brad Angelo great bowler from the 1960's he justed bowled locally on a bBuffalo bowling show called BEAT THE CHAMP from Buffalo N.Y.

@altfactor There were a couple of perfect games bowled on television long before Jack Biondolillo did it live from coast to coast. The first came in 1953,Graz Castellano did it on a New York area bowling show.The second came in 1954,Steve Nagy shot his perfecto on the syndicated series Championship Bowling,at Faetz-Niesen Lanes in Chicago.

It was the first "300" game on ABC's PBA coverage, but there may have been others in local bowling shows. I don't know.

amazing accmplishment jack!!! keep in mind that in 1967 a 300 game was much more challenging to acheive with wood lanes and ball technology that wouldn't be used for spare balls today...also weird not to hear chris schenkel providing his relaxing signature play by play....i know he was with abc's broadcast team by 1970......

I believe this was the second time the Firestone finals had been broadcast in color by ABC, but the first year the rest of the PBA Winter/Spring tour had been colorcast by that network.
