@kddcc I dont know a whole lot about engines, but what about yamaha. I have a yamaha 2stroke 6hp on my inflatable and it runs great.

Some of the mercury engines are made by tohatsu i think up to 40hp

some of the new mercs are build in china but evinrude-johnson were NEVER build in china i have a 2001 johnson 150hp the last model ever buidl and in HUGE letters on the air filter in say made in USA

i like your sayin and thinkin. =]
i have a 15hp 1981 evinrude that "while running" went totaly underwatter (sunk john boat). i flipped my john boat back over put gas to it and she fired right up no problem and pushed me back home. lets put a jap made motor underwatter and see how it does. haha
evinrude, johnson, and mercury are the best outboards.
