@shunyata81 My point is that "just sitting" in the sense of simply being present and not investigating your mind, your emotions, obsessions and neuroses, can result in never bringing awareness to issues you would rather not deal with. This is why some people who have spent many years meditating can be very clear in some areas and still be quite emotionally immature or underdeveloped in others. Being present is the ultimate goal, but to make that your only practice, I don't know.

@squamish4244 Not literally, I'm saying do the practice and stop conceptualizing about the practice. Karma fine, but take the instructions and do the practice. In between sittings conceptualize.

@shunyata81 Just sitting will not do it. Unless you have very good karma or are very lucky, just sitting is not nearly enough.

@lyntonio just sit

Meditative progress with no scriptures? How about achieving knowing of higher algebra without any math textbook? Hard to imagine :)

No, one cannot. If we could, then why are we still so unenlightened, miserable, deluded and confused as to the causes of happiness and suffering. We need directions and guidance to free ourselves from the delusion and confusion that has so profoundly and deeply grasped our minds. If you do not believe this, you may try going without guidance and after some time you will see nothing in your mind has changed. The ego will only create a Dharma that substantiates itself.

Yes but, can meditative progress be made without any Scriptures of any source

Alan... thank you for your guidance and service in making these concepts and enlightenment available to us through your lama.
I am in rapt attention to the teachings of the mind and consciousness.
