Probably not the most exiting video on youtube, but still.. my new (vintage/old) and rebuilt Singer 45k sews three layers of veg. tanned leather, without any problem. I´m sure a fourth layer would be fine too..

The engine is rebuilt with a phase transformer, so I use that one to set the maximum speed. THe machine can of course sew a lot faster than this, but it´s ok for experimenting and testing things out..

  • @Marcusstratus yes, its somewhere around 1/2"

  • @Jhopnik my next machine will be an alternating one, but probably a newer model of some sort.. this machine will stretch the layer below sometimes, when I use thinner leather... but for the heavy stuff, it´s awesome! :-)

  • Nice, smooth sounding machine. I have the 45K58 alternating pressers and they CRASH down on the material. Life, eh?

  • As long as you can get it under the foot (1/2" clearance right?) it should have no problem...
