NIWA have created a fascinating Wellington Harbour tsunami simulation modelled on the 1855 earthquake event on the Wairarapa Fault. This simulation provided the basis for the earthquake and tsunami that was featured in the Aftershock tele-drama. James Goff, Senior Scientist at NIWA, talks us through the simulation. See what effect the tsunami wave has on Lyall Bay, Miramar and Evans Bay in particular.
NIWA is the National Institute of Water & Atmospheric Research, New Zealand.

My house is on the small hill where the airport control tower is I think I would be safe there if this happened but it would be like an island.

My house (in the middle of the miramar lake bed) would be underwater. After a major earthquake, I will be heading straight up the hill.
