I visited Lekki British International Junior school in lagos on global Handwashing Day 16/10/ 2010 at break time to see how conscious the kids are to basic hygiene in keeping the hands clean. I also compared it to other schools in Lagos especially the ones that do not have decent toilets let alone space to encourage children to wash their hands. Michael Bavin the Head Teacher of British International junior school said basic hygiene should be part of a scholl curriculum from preparatory stage. In the course of my research build-up and shootings ahead of the package I came across children in dirty market places where toddlers are left unsupervised to crawl and pick things from the ground to eat and licking their fingers.With the high rate of child mortality from preventable diseases such as diarrhea and cholera in Nigeria it is wise that the United Nations has chosen to concentrate on children to cultivate a clean habit...
