Even it the pianos are worn out, to throw out all that high-grade maple, mahogany, ebony seems like a crime. You can hardly buy wood of that quality now. Then there is the ivory...

Most pianos have a lifespan of 80-95 years. Being that the height of piano production was pre-radio, that makes most pianos elderly. Finding a tuning practitioner is difficult and costly, cultured people are diminishing with the likes of Justin Bieber and Nikki Minaj in the world. It's a sad reality. Take care of your piano and just ensure the fate of yours is better than these discarded entertainers.

Been viewing some of this piano destruction and it literally does make me feel sick to my stomach. I get that a lot of times repairs are too much to handle, and of course every piano can't be saved, but when I think about the craftsmanship and precision that went into so many of these historical instruments, I can't get past the feeling of horror and despair tearing HARD at my heartstrings. I can't imagine my own piano ever meeting this fate, I would die before I let that happen.

The irony is that you're getting upset over people getting upset. Quit with the name-calling. People like music and like pianos, and hate to see years of history literally thrown away like this. Doesn't make them spoiled, pampered, or self-important.

My grandmother had one and we couldn't afford the repairs & tuneup. We ended up burning it.
