A piece written for Mary, aka wrtnpromise.
http://www.youtube.com/wrtnpromise

I wrote this last night (9/6/09) in one night, yes one night. It is a string orchestra piece with harp. The title has a double meaning. Of course it is a play on Mary's username, but it is also a reference to the Bible, God's literal written promise to His people. God promised us eternal life through His never-ending love, the ultimate promise. This piece is meant to depict that promise, the sacrifice of God's son Jesus for humanity and His love for us in the process.

And this is the promise that He has promised us—eternal life.
- 1 John 2:25

  • Also, I'd like for everyone to keep in mind this was done in about 8 straight hours of composing. If I had weeks and weeks to prepare the piece, it would have undoubtedly been better, structurally especially. However, I wrote this in one night for Mary because I was very inspired to write it. I did not feel like waiting for that inspiration to come back, so I just wrote until it was finished without stopping.

  • While I do welcome all comments, I would appreciate if commenters realized the context of the composition and adjusted their opinions accordingly.

A warning though, if things get out of hand, I will start deleting inflammatory comments.

  • *is impressed* I never listen to an 8 minute long piece, but I listened to the whole thing.

I only wish I could've heard it performed by a string section.

P.s. We've gotta get you some really good orchestral samples for Sibelius. I hear a little film/tv composer just yearning to come out. ;p

  • I know right? I have a sneaking suspicion that film/TV is gonna be my bread and butter.

  • Its good dude,, keep it up!

  • In my opinion, not a bad composition. I do have to agree, however, that by the third or fourth minute I was looking for some new melodic material. Beautiful, but very predictable.

  • Thank you for that Tyler.

  • When instead, you should be thanking them for their time and effort to listen and criticize to help you grow.

  • It is necessary because their comment is unnecessary. You're not 10 years old and made a bad painting for your mom. I'm assuming you're old enough to not need things fluffed up for you anymore. They gave you valid reasons why they disliked your piece. If they just said "You suck, stop it. Stop" with no points to back up why, then sure, point at them and call them meanies, thumb down their comments and suck on your thumb.

  • ...

    Was that necessary?

The previous comments were poor in tact. While the content itself of said comments was not that far off from the truth, they were not said as constructive comments, to improve the piece, rather as comments meant to degrade the piece. Honestly, I agree with them to a point, but people need to learn HOW to tell *constructive* criticism. The comments come off as "mean" because they are. Constructive comments would be encouraging, not derogatory.

  • Mean? How old are you? Can't take constructive criticism? Musicians, I mean.... people in general take all kinds of constructive criticism to help themselves grow. If you can't, might as well stop joking yourself since you'll go no where if you can't even swallow your pride.
