This Video is meant for the people who tried saving their 1TB 7200.11 Seagate Harddrive.

Watch the main Movie here first: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=29FztWJVxbM

This is simply an addition to her movie to share my troubles.

PS It's been a week now and i still can't belive it works!!!

Update: Ok it seems there is a more official Way to get Hyper Terminal nowadays. One can simply use the Hyper Terminal from Windows XP. That way it's free and it's supposed to run normally.
Here's one link t get it

  • Once you have applied the fix, can you use a regular sata power and sata cable to retrieve the data?

  • @Smoke1987jdalej Yes you can. In fact you can use it as a normal working Harddrive again. But i recommend buy a new working Harddrive copy all your files and send the old one to hell

  • Thanks for the reply on my vid! I was thinking of making a FAQ video soon but I've been busy + you covered some points I wanted to make. Btw, I'm a girl. LOL. An honest mistake. :D Congrats on the drive, Cheers!

  • @nitrohelix1

  • Fuck you man, that annoying sound at 0:25 woke up my girlfriend.

  • How can I make sure it is a BYS error instead of something else wrong with my hard drive before I invest all this time & like $20 to get it to work again. I was playing my computer perfectly fine yesterday & then today when I went to boot it up my hard drive wouldn't spin up, it just froze at the BIOS splash screen & I couldn't do anything else after that. I attached another hard drive to my computer to make sure it wasn't the mother board or RAM/CPU it worked, so I figure it is my HDD.

  • which drivers did you use? because I can't get the ones on the video you are responding to work.

Using the nokia drivers, when I start the power to the HDD I just get "RxT 0x10M" in hyper terminal.

  • @tmakonde confused.

    so, disregard wiring vid?

and to clarify, RX on cable goes to TX on HDD and vice versa?

  • IT WORKS!! my hd works like a charm now... :D

  • All that's in the CA-42 cable is an FT232B chip (USB to serial). I had already made this circuit for another project, but it also worked on my Seagate 1TB no problem. The important wires to get right are the RED and BLACK ones (Red - 5v & Black GND). The other two (RX & TX) can just be swapped until CTRL Z works in Hyperterminal.

  • My cable looks just like yours, but it only has 4 wires (red, green, black, white) Do you know which ones are which? Thanks for the video btw

  • When i connect my nokia cable to my pc it is recognized as "USB to UART" and windows 7 can't install the correct drivers. What driver shall i use?

  • CONT...STEP 3. Being we are in the V section, turn the selector switch to the nearest lowest voltage your CA-42 cable gonna require(3.3v)..Let's assume the BLK wire's ground. Put black probe on it.. get red probe and individually touch the remaining wires. jot wire colours and voltages you see on screen down. if you don't understand it, send me a email and we'll see if i can explain better :-)

  • Hi Nedo36uk! For use of a multi meter: -

    STEP 1

Set up multimeter to test DC voltage. Insert a + red probe into the red voltage test (V) port and the - black probe into the COM port. Push probes firmly into the ports to stop chance of damaging multimeter...STEP 2. Set multimeter selector SWITCH to the DC voltage setting. The setting is typically a V with a straight line over the V or to the side of the V.. Once the multimeter dial is switch the meter will be on.......
