Tom is indeed an incredible songwriter. I'm actually a bit surprised that there aren't more covers of this great song on YouTube. We have Dave Alvin's great version, but we need more. As soon as I dust off my fingers, I'll post a cover. A truly great song needs amateur's singing it to keep it alive.

That's just too effing beautiful,spiritbearNY.
I missed that boat and many others, some featuring Our Lord and Saviour Fred Eaglesmith.
And the worst part for me is that I am a freight conductor for CN Rail here in Jasper.
If you had a nickel for every time I've regreted missing the Tom Russell Train, or the Roots On The Rails Trains with Mr.Eaglesmith, well you'd have enough to buy yourself a train ticket to Jasper just so you could punch me in the face.

@louquarm Oh, that's so sad to hear. I can relate. I have to miss the Narrow Gauge train trip with Tom and the Flatlanders in September. Hopefully, they'll go back to Canada. Roots on the Rails sponsored our trip to Canada and I hope will go back one day. Fares went way up which is why they haven't scheduled any more. It's never too late, try to make one of the U.S. trips. I believe they're doing a cruise in Canada with Fred? Good luck! And I wouldn't punch you, you've suffered enough. ;p

@spiritbearNY Jasper Alberta Canada, the Thin Air Capital of the Rockies.
First saw Tom in the early 90's at our Folk Festival.
I had no idea who he was, but my buddy kept saying,"You gotta hear Blue Wing"
He played with Andrew Harding? .
Just the two of them.
Blew my mind !
Cheers,
Luke
P.S. Of course David Lindley came on later and put my mind back together again.

@louquarm Omgosh, I was in Jasper and guess who with? None other than Tom Russell! I was traveling on the Song Train with Tom Russell and the Flatlanders. There were about 70 of us and we had eight cars for ourselves on Via Rail. We crossed from Toronto to Vancouver and there were three concerts a day on the train. I loved Jasper and didn't want to leave. The trip was a trip of a lifetime. I love Canada especially in the winter. Small world.
