Spearfishing - Barracuda Fights Back

You should never go for a head shot on a barracuda. The best place is to hit it dead center. If you hit the spine or close to it the fish will be stoned. If you miss the fish will not be able to swim properly and cannot charge as it did in the video. The spear in the middle always makes the fish roll around instead of swimming in straight lines. We had to learn the hard way after a friend had a nasty bite from a big barracuda.

what gun do you use?

hmmm next time don't run away from it to the top and actually fight the fish so something like that doesn't happen again. Honestly you are lucky, that cuda could have easily cut a nice chunk of your calve off or better yet catch you bad place. My advice to you figh the fish control it with the shaft. get better fins also so you can do all of that better.

@Barrykrocker
While some consider Barracuda to be non-table, we eat them. Although the fish has a strong odor, the meat is very good. The main reason people don't eat them is they are a carrier for Ciguatera. This, however, is usually only a risk in reef environments. This Barracuda was taken for use as bait in a shark fishing tournament.
