City Year was established in 1988, long before the Obama administration. They do not promote any sort of ideology except being positive and creative, and being aware about the world's challenges, like poverty, racism, and so forth. City Year members are strongly discouraged from trying to pressure the kids with whom they work into any sort of political party; there are Republicans, Libertarians, and many others who are in City Year as well. The message is acceptance and diversity, not Socialism.

first of all, this was most painful. You city year people completely suck.  there have been volunteer organizations coming out of our asses for centuries. If it took getting a black president to TELL you to serve your community then you're not doing it for the right reason in the first place.
