America is a melting pot but is it stirred?

Well I don't see how it is possible to make consent the standard. The property norms will not be consented to by everyone in an area. To them the property claims may be authortarian according to their preference about property. I no longer worry about just consent anymore myself. I agree the social contract is make believe and propagandistic. However, I think the same can be said about the NAP and cosent arguments. You should come by Skype.
-
@IndividualAutonomy, Part of the problem is consent. I may not want to pay for the military. I may be willing to take the risks of living with out it, I may not be able to afford it, I may be a pacifist. When I pay through taxes there is no stated preference in my desires through my actions. I should not be forced to pay for something I don't want. The social contract is fundamentally flawed.

Yes anarchists were feared along with communists in the early 1900s. I personally am not interested in living in an anarchism compared to other things. The problem is they may not be combined and even if they were it could very well be cheaper for them to higher their own low level security instead of paying for large scale, high tech military with police combo yet they would still get protection with defense. Ostacization etc has problems as well incentive wise. Come by Skype.
-
@IndividualAutonomy, well, for one, since defense is generally part of infrastructure then it would not be unlikely for the cost of defense to be shifted to the consumer. Large businesses would also pay for defense. Those private police services and insurance companies might be integrated with military defense as well. And people will generally move away from an area without much defense to areas with more defense, free riders may be ostracized or left behind. Just a few possibilities.
-
@IndividualAutonomy, The irony, a hundred years ago people were paranoid about anarchists immigrating to America. I'm not sure if you were even allowed to come into the country if you were openly an anarchist, that was one of the questions they asked. Abolishing western states is not likely. The most likely path to anacap is buying or claiming land somewhere and starting settlements. Look up "micronations".
-
The problem that I see is not really a problem with or without diversity one way or the other... the problem is that the entire idea of liberty, and "American Exceptionalism", has been vilified to the point where people are no longer encouraged to embrace being AMERICAN, and are instead encouraged to hold on to their ethnic background above all else.
-
Well the West is already being taken over by immigrants who are less open to libertarianism than the host population. The chance of Anarchism happening as well as even a minarchist state are not very likely. If the immigrants out breed you in the anarchism and support a state you may get one. Offensive is helpful to end a war quicker if you can bring the pain to the host population attacking you. I don't see how that solves the individual incentive not to pay.
-
@IndividualAutonomy, Air supremacy is mostly offensive, not defensive. It is generally cheaper to shoot down planes then to build them anyways. Same with the navy, although they are a little more general purpose, gunships that can shoot 20 miles inland and air craft carriers are hardly defensive. A PDA can also lower your rate if you agree to possible conscription, and it woud likely have a trained force as well. Defenses are generally part of infrastructure anyways.
-
@IndividualAutonomy, anyways, it doesn't matter what the immigrants believe. Once you have an anacap society, its not likely going to be replaced with immigrants. PDA's might refuse immigrants service if they were a real threat. Free riders are not a big problem, there are various ways around it. Insurance is one way, if you get invaded the insurance company will pay into your estate, so even if you die they still have incentive to not lose that money in the first place.
@oldhacks
"America is what it is because it's a melting pot"
Yes, we've got the western world's highest rate of crime, a high rate of welfare dependency, and a high poverty rate, thanks to being a melting pot. I'm glad you reminded me of that.

@oldhacks
That's awesome, oldhacks. Because murder and rape are things that people do because they're desperate for money and-wait, what?
