It's, from my pov, about how two people grew up in the same area, went to the same school and everything but didn't know eachother. Age difference or just never in the same class they didn't meet until they were older and realized that they had been so close for their entire lives.

lol I've heard the first version, there's one video of it up on Youtube. I just don't really understand why so many like that version better. I like the instrumentals, lyrics, and the overall flow of this version better personally.

I can see how the lyrics could suggest two people who went to the same school/lived in the same town, but happened to be born 13 years apart. Did the writer actually say this song's about a 21-year-old pedo, though? 'Cause I think it could also be talking about two people who meet after 13 years apart; they had a lot of similar experiences and, as children, either were interested in one another (but didn't act on their emotions) or ignored each other.
