DONT PLAY WITH TB, DONT PLAY WITH DOTS...a 'playful' patient's testimony

This patient was a case of sputum positive pulmonary [lungs] tuberculosis who was referred to our TB center for DOTS sometime in early 2008. He was very irregular in taking medicines, unable to get rid of his addiction to alcohol, and was sputum positive when his sputum was tested twice into his treatment. He was informed that he needed to go in for CAT II treatment of 8 to 9 months duration and that he could be also suffering from MDR TB i.e. multi-drug-resistant TB. He refused to take DOTS, abused our staff who went to his home repeatedly to bring him back for treatment...but all our efforts went in vain. The disease took a firm grip over him, rendering him unable to do any work and he finally got admitted into the Erragadda TB hospital from where he was sent to our center for treatment. He is just skin and bones now. We hope he will recover and win the fight against TB. Time only will tell who will win. In case you are suffering from TB, please do not neglect taking the full course of medicines. Those who neglect it are only hastening their own deaths.

May, 2011: This video was taken in July 2010. This patient, despite our counselling, has been irregular while taking the Cat II regimen he was put upon and his sputum tested repeatedly positive for TB bacilli. He was suspected to be having MDR TB and his sputum was tested for the same but the report we received was that his was a non-MDR case. His treatment outcome was reported to be a failure. When he was brought to us for treatment, he could not sit, he could not stand nor take a step or two to walk.
