@cinelolo whoops shoulda done this as a reply to yours ah well.
As an FYI:
The national standard space size is 7.2m (24'), but the average vehicle size is something like 4.5 m (15') these days. So even if you gave an extra meter in front and behind (which is generous), you could park 15 instead of 14 on a 100m block (thus 7% more). Typically when it's busy people will squeeze more.

It created more short term parking because before they had single parking meters in predefined spaces, in a lot of areas. Those required a fixed amount of space per vehicle. When you remove parking meters and allow people to snug up and freely park, you actually get something like 5%-25% more parking on a block depending on the length of the block, the size of the vehicles parked on the block, the parking habits, etc.

how does it create MORE short term parking? I love how some idiot drivers can't figure out how many vehicles could (should) fit into parking zones. I also love watching people get all confused when using these machines. I love how they can't see the screen for the glare. I love how it takes more time to pay for parking than to tend to my business. I also really love how all the people in fancy, expensive cars feel the need to park in the loading zones. What can't afford to pay for parking?

I don't like these parking guys much but the system looks neat and the video really shows it off well.
