November, 1998 - While medical marijuana patient Jean Marlowe suffers in a cold jail cell, her hempster friends from Asheville, NC journey to the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws convention in Washington, DC, hoping to find help among the lawyers and activists.
Giving the first speech of his life, Mingo is overcome by the tragedy of Jean's plight, inspiring an Oakland, CA councilman to call the Governor of NC and offer sanctuary to Jean.
Then Gordon "the Bush Doctor", a MD who had grown Cannabis for a cancer patient and lost his licence, serenaded the NORML crowd with his song, "The Problem is the Law!"
Lester Grinspoon, who testified for Gordon at his trial in 1981, finishes out the video with his prediction of the future of medical marijuana - that, when fully researched, Cannabis would be considered a "wonder drug", like Penicillin - safe, effective for many conditions and cheap to produce.

The rumors of Jean's passing were greatly exaggerated. She is alive and well, now working to make Medical Marijunana legal in North Carolina. Visit NCCPNdotORG

Jean is a warrior in a bizarre struggle for the freedom to feel better. What's wrong with this country?
I Love you Jean and Ervin,

I cried hearing about Jean on the floor like that. The Law in that area is aware of her case and this is beyond appalling, it is downright criminal. It seems they are TRYING to cause her to grow weaker. Janet Reno's law men now. I feel as if we really are becoming Nazi Germany and they will just make sure the 'weakest among us' perish and wither. Any day now I expect to hear cops uttering this phrase "Show me your papers." In this case ID.
