Most archers experience target panic. Target panic is a psychological condition that forces an archer into a premature hold or release of the arrow. Basically, as you place the pin on the target you have a hard time getting a smooth release because you're anticipating the shot. A good way to break this condition is to use a back-tension release. These releases let go of the string as you twist your hand back; as a result, they help create a surprise release, which is the key to shooting both a rifle and a bow accurately. The Longhorn Hex, from Scott Archery, is a new back-tension release that's designed so it won't fire prematurely.

  • allright, asshole here/. I swear to god, he looks like the guy from Transformers 3. *laughs* As to the video, I have been using back tension for years. I love it, though I did break my own nose once when drawing the bow. I was using an Eighty pound Browning, some model I can't remember, and I was about thirteen. Slip, smack, and hospital. My foster brother rammed a couple of cut up pen tubes up my shnoz and taped them. One of the most painful experiences in my young life.

  • @Fiddepik iam not bashing bowtech but he is sponsored by hoyt

  • @mrbrave65 there's nothing wrong with bowtech at all, they make some pretty neat hunting bows.

  • Why WOULDN'T he ??

  • Why is he shooting a Bowtech???

  • @hoytarchery60x a release can fix target panic, but it has to be used correctly! hinge releases and tesion releases reprogram the brain to seperate the 2 tasks that have to be done, aiming...., and triggering the release. a back tension release simply lets you do just the aiming tasks and let's the other task, aiming be set in motion

  • Back Tension is a style of shooting. It is not a release. I agree with hoytarchery60X folks with target panic will be throttling that release in no time. It is however a good release!

  • There is no magic release or bow or sight or anything that will fix target panic (TP)

TP is the archer trying to control both the aiming aspect of the shot but also firing the release.. The conscious mind cannot do both.

This release looks all cool and will help.........but guys with TP will be yanking that handle all over the place. It will work for about 30 minutes.

Sorry. The truth is the truth.
