sorry no effence but macs shitty honestly when you buy you shit it should have not even one fuckin problem okay. if you have to waste your battery on stupid shit like a dam simple cooling fan then take you mac and slam it as hard as you can in you face. i say that macs and pcs are the same but they both have there positives and negatives except lenux fucking penguin fuckers LOL

you can use smc fan control, just to adjust the speed of your fans :) mine gets so hot so i used that program to use the fans at max speed and the problem is solved :D
the only thing is that if you have not connected you macbook to a power adapter it's going to use a lot of your battery

for OS X
:1.)Buy a podium coolpad! The one that elevates a laptop
2.)Play/Use in a cool place
3.)I forgot what it's called but there's an app that can speed up the fan speeds for your macbook pro on the OS X partition
OR
return it to apple, tell them to inspect/diagnose your macbook pro

two solutions I came up to avoid overheating:
for Windows XP
1.)Buy a podium coolpad! The one that elevates a laptop
2.)Play/Use in a cool place
3.)Try to test out other video drivers
4.)There's an app called rivatuner that can speed up fan speeds(however, I can't get my rivatuner to speed up my fan speed)

I can still remember that I read the MacBook Pro Unibody Aluminum can endure 90 degrees celsius for a long time
well, I got the same laptop as yours(only mine's the 15" 2.53 GHz one) and windows suddenly shuts off when I play cod4 or cod5 for a mere 5 min. I'm pretty sure the sudden shutdowns that are happening to me are caused by overheating(not drivers/faulty gpu or cpu)

Wow, 88 degrees Celsius is pretty hot for even a laptop.

Are the CPU's in these overclockable at all?
I know the Core 2 Duo's are very OC'able, But these are the scaled down mobile core 2 duo's so maybe it's not a good idea?
This is not overclocked
