Strathspey

A Scottish Strasthspey played on a "baroqued" violin with gut strings, no chin rest, and a baroque bow. I still squeak with the gut strings, but it is fun playing this violin. I just started taking lessons this summer after not playing for over 20 years. I used to play viola classically.

Hey thank you! Actually, today I was feeling kind of discouraged. I was feeling like my music sounded like it was plodding along, or sounded labored, instead of lilting.

I really appreciate your comments. They made my evening.

I think that what I need is to play with other fiddlers as much as I can.... kind of like a language emersion program, or getting it by osmosis.

You know.... sometimes I still squeak... I think that there can be more than one reason. This last week I was fiddling down in North Carolina at a Scottish fiddle school.... it was very humid and I found that I was squeaking here and there... dear 'o dear.... I also have a bow that apparently needs to be cleaned, as there were some slippery places along the hairs. Hopefully that will help take care of the occasional squeaks, lol.
