The high school I attended while growing up offered ways to get involved without being a total conformist. However, in a conformist town of population 7, I suppose you are sort of stuck in getting involved by conforming to the bandwagon. But he should not leave it at that, he should make some noise and give the other kids more options to get involved in things they aren't doing now.
