Purling the Weird Way

Well, the stitches turn out ok because in fact the yarn is going in the right places. However, the tension is really skewed because the yarn is not allowed to slip through your fingers and is instead grabbed and wrapped. You are only half way to mastering the continental method. There is no question that you are knitting, but you are surrendering speed and ease because you have not yet got the yarn in your hands in the most efficient way. A little research and you will have much more fun.

Looks very inefficient. I know there is no right or wrong and knitters don't like being told they are wrong but try - wrap the yarn round your left hand like this: With your palm facing you put your left pinky under the yarn then move your pinky over the yarn and then let it it rest under the fingers, lightly gripping with your ring finger. Move your index finger under the yarn so that the yarn lies across the index finger just above the first knuckle and just under the nail. (more......)

I think you purl just fine

That is how I purl! I was just asked how I knit and this is the first video that shows my purling. I never have problems with my tension or time.

What's so weird about that? You're throwing, while holding the yarn continental. That's how every English knitter purls, except with the yarn in the other hand.

Wtf dude seriously who knits that tight

Ha - that is how I purl too!

I just could not purl that slowly and awkwardly, no offense. I do the Portuguese style of purling if it's a purl only project. Otherwise, for knitting and purling a project, I use the Eastern European style. I taught myself to knit in 7 days back in July this year and can speed through scarves and hats pretty well. I just kept learning different knitting styles until I found one that was fast and efficient enough for my short attention span. :-)

your video is one of the most helpful videos on how to purl! Just hearing you say that you hold the string of yarn down with your thumb makes this the most helpful video on purling i've watched thus far. Good piece of advice ;)

Have you ever heard of Portuguese knitting style? It's much easier and faster to do.

Holy cow! Thats how I purl!
Unconventional purling, yeah. The stitches look totally the same, I just hold my yarn weird.
