Pond was choked with Typha angustifolia which had punctured the liner. Liner was visible all around and 4 ton of gravel was in bottom of pond. Missed photos of first day as I forgot the camera! Liner was replaced and extra underlay was added in places where we cut through existing underlay to remove stones. New liner was set between blocks instead of under them as previous. This enabled a higher water level to fully hide liner. Instead of the gravel going back into the bottom of the pond, an extra layer of underlay was added all around the edges, then gravel was spread out and planted into with suitable plants. Most plants were native. http://www.pondguru.co.uk for pond work and http:www.tynevalleyaquatics.co.uk for pond materials, fish etc.
Work done for Grace Landscapes.
Existing plants used:
Mimulus guttatus, Carex riparia, Carex pendula, Carex pseudocyperus, Caltha polypetala, Caltha palustris, Acorus calamus.
New plants added:
Ceratopyllum demersum, Elodea Densa, Polygonum bistorta amphibium, Iris pseudacorus, Eriophorum angustifolia, Lysichiton americanus, Peltaphyllum peltatum, Juncus effusus, Mazus reptans, Menyanthes trifoliata, Mentha aquatica, Mentha pulegium, Juncus ensifolius, Oenanthe flamingo, Ranunculus flammula, Veronica beccabunga, Myosotis palustris plus others I have forgotten.
Most of plants from own nursery.

  • cool song

  • Nice job Pondguru.:)

  • that's pretty cool, I hope it does well at the middle school, though. Kid's that age can such buttheads!

  • wow what a difference! Great Job. Im sure the kids really enjoy it.

  • As this was a banana shape pond I had to allow about 3m more than usual on the length to allow for the folds.

  • Usually the liner is simple to work out, its just the length + (maximum depth x 2) and width + (maximum depth x 2). On a small to medium pond I would allow approx 1' (30cm) overlap on all sides and on a large pond I would allow 1m on all sides. The music is by Ian Brown from the 'Unfinished monkey business' album. Track is 'Upside down'.
