Just like the title says! These are exercises I use primarily for warming up.

And when I said "Up, down, up, down" for the picking pattern I meant starting on down for the downbeat. I should have said down, up, down, up.

It might be debated whether practice makes *perfect*, but it sure does make you a better player! Practice everything that is difficult slowly, and probably use 90% of your practice time on what you can't play.

Playing things you already know how to play very well won't get you any further than you already are.

  • john petrucci had the same type of exercises in his instructional video

  • They must be common exercises, I learned them from a friend who plays the electric guitar very fast - I guess what you call shredding? Anyhow, thanks for letting me know.

  • good on for putting up a nice lesson....one thing though, when someone is really new to the instrument, it is typically a good idea to hold off from alternate picking, going to fast to early will result in teaching yourself bad habits that will hinder your playing down the road.

  • thanks for this, it looks easy enough for me (guitar nub) to grasp. Much appreciated!

  • Thanks for all the lessons! They are great! I'm very new to guitar, but I have to learn this fast bluegrass stuff, because that's what all my pickin buddies play. I need to work on a lot to be able to sit with them and I thank you for giving me a good foundation to work from. Man, you can be fast when you want to be! Keep up the good work!!!

  • Thanks for your efforts and the time you take to help other people your videos are really well done keep it up lots of people will benefit

  • Thats great, always looking for new exercises, that spider one is a fun one! Thankyou
